Charlotte Austin
"As I waded further and further out into the murky water I could feel my toes sinking into the mulch. The steady swell of putrid liquid was rising inside my wetsuit? It was at this point I had to question just how far I was prepared to go for my profession."
Charlotte joined Whistledown in early 2007 as Studio Manager and Producer.
Taking the spoken word by the horns and wrestling it into something tangible has been a passion for Charlotte since as far back as she can remember. From the early days sat cross-legged with her three sisters around their father's cassette recorder, to reporting from the top of a high ropes course in Lake Taupo, New Zealand.
Charlotte started her career as a copywriter for production house Common Heard. Here she stayed behind night after night determined to learn as much as she could about the process of production, from writing, casting, producing and engineering. In order to explore production techniques in other cultures Charlotte took a sabbatical. She travelled the world visiting various radio and television studios along the way, including Radio Bula in Fiji, where she worked as a reporter and engineer. Upon returning to the UK she joined The JMS Group in their London studios as a senior commercials producer. Her client portfolio included DLKW, Publicis, Fox Kalamaski, Harrods and Dreams.
After some time working in the commercial sector Charlotte was eager to gain experience in long-form production, so she joined the Sound Company. During her time here she worked on a range of productions such as Book at Bedtime and Poetry Please for BBC Radio4, The Choir for BBC Radio2 and On The Run, The Facemakers and Deadliest Catch for the Discovery Channel. She also worked on a number of commercial and corporate productions.
Since joining Whistledown Charlotte has designed and project managed the build of our in house studio facility. Charlotte is Whistledown's resident engineer and she also produces across the full range of Whistledown programmes including The Reunion, Traveller@#39;s Tree and Questions Questions, for which she also doubles up as a features reporter. She has produced a number of documentaries, her latest credits being Coward: The Poet and South Of My Days.
