Sue MacGregor
"'I’ve always been Susan MacGregor on SABC'. 'We can’t have that,' said Bill Hardcastle, the presenter of the World at One. 'What do your friends call you? Sue? That’s better. From now on you will be Sue MacGregor. Much easier to say'."
Sue MacGregor was born in Oxford and brought up in South Africa, where she made her first broadcast on a programme for teenagers. She joined the BBC in London first as a producer, then a reporter on The World at One, and for 15 years was the voice of Woman's Hour on Radio 4. For over 17 years she fronted Today, and was their longest-serving presenter until she left in 2002. She now presents A Good Read and, of course, The Reunion. She was awarded the CBE in 2002 for services to broadcasting. Her most memorable interviews include: Brian Mawhinney, Nelson Mandela, Bette Davis and Walter Matthau.
"The Reunion is a joy. So often our gatherings make for powerful and unforgettable recordings. If the basic recipe for each recording hardly varies, the resulting mix is somehow always fresh and unpredictable each time. That’s what makes it for me, and we hope for participants and listeners too, such a rewarding experience."
