Jonathan Charles
Jonathan Charles is a World Affairs Correspondent and freelance presenter for the BBC. Always calm in a crisis, Jonathan once leapt into a trench to avoid shellfire in Chechnya only to discover he’d nearly flattened a former college roommate, he’s tracked down stories on every continent but interviewing Nelson Mandela sticks out as a career highlight for him.
Jonathan spent more than 17 years as a foreign correspondent, living in North America and mainland Europe. During that time, he covered some of the biggest stories of the past few decades. From the fall of the Berlin wall through European integration, the civil wars in former Yugoslavia, many wars across the globe including the conflicts in Chechnya and their aftermath. He also covered the Beslan school siege massacre and the Nord-Ost Moscow theatre siege for the BBC.
Based in London Jonathan works as a presenter of news bulletins on the BBC World and News24 tv channels. He travels widely for the BBC particularly covering the war in Iraq, and having begun his carrier as a radio reporter Jonathan continues to make radio documentaries from around the world.
