Emily Williams
"I once interviewed a man in Boston who had the world's largest collection of human hair. He showed me strands of Beethoven, Henry VIII and Abraham Lincoln, but when he produced a full head of Elvis hair on a blue suede cushion, I felt myself feeling slightly giddy".
Whistledown producer Emily Wiliams first got to grips with the fundamentals of reporting whilst still at school, when having tracked down legendary sculptor Eduardo Paolozzi for a rare interview her money run out on the payphone mid flow. Since then she's struggled through French swamps, sweated it out in Jamaican domino clubs and suffered altitude sickness in the Himalayas in the dogged pursuit of a good story and wherever she goes you can be sure she's fully equipped with spare batteries and change.
After leaving university with a degree in History she was briefly sidetracked into media sales at BSkyB, then having been poached by Virgin Radio she spent a number of years presenting to advertisers and agencies on the strengths of radio as a medium. In order to practice what she preached, she decided to pursue a career in radio production, reporting on sports and music for a number of radio stations in Sydney including Northern beaches, 2SER and ABC Radio National.
After returning to the UK, Emily joined Whistledown first as a producer on 'Questions Questions' and more recently on 'UK Confidential' and the 'Reunion' series.
Now based in the Loire Valley, Emily is busy cultivating her cellar and working on a number of exciting documentaries with Whistledown, involving Julian Clary, John O' Farrell, Henry Kissinger and the US Table Tennis Team, but not all together! Her Radio 4 programme 'Dominoes Goes Home' won The British Guild of Travel Writers award for radio last year.
